8/18 -- The Annual Volunteer Training day is scheduled for Saturday, September 25, 2010 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Lorain County Community College's Spitzer Conference Center. Breakfast and registration will begin at 7:30 a.m., and registered MRC volunteers will be able to get their ID badges from 7:30 a.m. to 7:55 a.m. and following the event at 12:30 p.m. This year's event features award-winning speaker, Ana-Marie Jones from Collaborating Agencies Responding to Disasters (CARD) in California, who passionately advocates for ending the disaster victim cycle and promotes community resiliency without the use of fear or threat-based messages. She spoke at the 2009 Integrated Medical, Public Health, Preparedness and Response Training Summit in Dallas, Texas and received a standing ovation from the audience. Additionally, two breakout sessions will be held during the latter part of the event, giving volunteers the opportunity to personalize their training day. Breakout topics include the following:
